David Sanborn 1945-2024

Dan Sanborn, encore, Saxophone, Jazz, Music, Live Performance

I have been actively shooting concerts in the DMV area since 2015. In less than ten years, I have shot a lot of concerts and interacted with various artists. Some concerts were good, and some were bad. Artists with diva attitudes—you name it, I had to deal with it.

I shot saxophonist David Sanborn twice at Rams Head On Stage. He was very polite and gracious and put up with my Nikon shutter. The last time I shot David was back in 2022. I was able to get up close and take a few shots of David enjoying the audience’s appreciation of his set.

I was excited to be shooting David again this week at Rams Head On Stage, but I was told the show was canceled. David was having spine surgery and would be out for 6 to 8 weeks.

While on lunch break on Monday, May 13th, I found out from David’s Instagram page that David had died on Sunday, May 12th.

My condolences and prayers go out to his wife, Alice, family, friends, and fans.
