I had the privilege to shoot George V. Johnson Jr. for day 2 of the DC Jazz Festival. The performance was at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. Mr. Johnson sang a one-hour jazz set birthday tribute to Charlie Parker. A retired DC Metro bus driver, Mr. Johnson, has been writing songs for over 45 years because other artists told him to do so. The audience could purchase his new CD at the end of the performance.
Mr. Johnson was accompanied by Donvante McCoy on trumpet, Elijah Easton on saxophone, Samuel Pather on piano, Herman Burney on bass, and Lenny Robinson on drums.
